Musings of An Eclectic Cowboy

The Box

November 9, 2009

On Saturday we did something new. We went to a Saturday night Worship Service. It was an excellent service and I really felt in touch with Christ. But since then something has been nagging at me about that time of worship and I want to share my thoughts with you.

Have you noticed how easy it is to put Christ in a box? Once we experience Christ in a certain way that rocks us to our soul then we start believing that experience is the best way to know Christ. Whether we experience Christ through a certain type of music, a message by a certain speaker or through a certain retreat we start focusing on that experience. The problem is that when we start focusing on an experience we forget what it was that actually caused that experience. We forget that it was because Christ came to us in a whole new way that actually rocked our soul not the production that brought the experience. So by focusing on the experience we start putting Christ in a box. We start trying to duplicate the experience and for some reason it is never as powerful as it was the first time. And over time our relationship with Christ starts to deteriorate.

What kind of box do you have Christ in? And are you willing to tear down some of those walls so that you and others can see and find Him again? Or do you only want to try and keep him for yourself? Try and experience Christ in a slightly new way and you will find that the walls will easily fall down. Then you will realize that Christ had already escaped out of the box and was waiting on the outside for you just waiting to rock your soul again.
