Flying Pigs

May 2, 2009

In view of recent events I have just felt compelled to share with you a few thoughts that I have been having lately. Now what I am talking about is our recent outbreak of Swine Flu which I have dubbed in the title as Flying Pigs (pun intended). Now I am not going to argue that this strain is not something to be concerned about because it is. But what bothers me is that people are taking their concerns and turning them into fear. Now fear is not a bad thing, taken in the right doses and under the right situations fear will save your life. You have a right to fear and run like you have never run before when a Bull is coming at you blowing snot on your britches. But you shouldn't let fear rule your life. When fear rules your life then it has a way of paralyzing you. Howard Hughes had a fear of germs so he lead the life of a hermit.

In our current situation it seems to me that a lot of people have gone beyond concern to fear of what might or might not happen. It is as if we are afraid of being hit by a car so we never cross the street. I was in a store today and sneezed but instead of the normal Bless You all I got was a few stares and a wide berth. Now I am not saying that we should completely ignore the warnings but I do think that we need to be careful to not let the fear of getting the flu control our lives.
